A Very Long Month

Just a warning no one needs to read this, but if you want to feel free.

Starting in October Collin and I found out we were pregnant. We were just getting excited when I miscarried. I never understood what others went through with miscarriages. My heart goes out to anyone who has ever suffered this. I felt like my life was turned upside down. My emotions were all over the map. I did have some comfort in a wonderful blessing that Collin gave me. I was told that this baby only needed a body and that was all we needed to provide and that we would know when it was time for us to have another baby.

With all of this happening in our family some of our dear friends found out that their father had been diagnosed with a rare disease and had roughly two weeks to live. We have spent a little time with their family over the summer getting to know this great man and were very sad for their family. I spent the next couple of weeks pushing myself to cover my own grief with helping them. I still don't feel like I did enough for them, but I tried. I made soup, treats, and tried to keep the kiddos as often as possible.

Throughout all of this Collin had his annual trip to Neuroscience. His trip was to Washington D.C. this year. I had been planning to go with Collin for the past three years, but when it came down to it I had a really bad feeling about going so I passed. Normally I would have gone home to my parents in Idaho for a few days, but I decided not to let the kids miss that much school and stuck it out. While Collin was gone our friends dad passed away. It was a sad and hard day. I thought about losing my own dad and couldn't imagine dealing with that. I had a good idea how they were feeling because we lost Collin's mom 7 years ago to cancer. I also received the call that Collin's grandfather was not doing well. He had gone into LDS hospital earlier in the week for surgery to remove cancer in his bladder and was failing. I spent the week trying to keep Collin updated on everything and be with his family.

I spent Sunday at the hospital all day with Grandma Jane, Ann, and Kevin. As I arrived they were talking to Grandpa about what he wanted to do. Grandpa has been dealing with complications with dialysis for over a year now. After surgery Grandpa had a stroke, and a heart - attack, when they were in the surgery they realized the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. It was such a hard day to have to call Collin and his family and let them know that Grandpa had decided not to any more life saving efforts. We brought Grandpa home from the hospital on Monday so that he could be at home. I really thought that Grandpa would hold on until Collin could get here, but unfortunately Grandpa passed away at 2pm and Collin got in at 8pm. It was a very sad day.

Needless to say: Thursday we attended Joe's funeral (our friends dad). Friday we packed and tried to organize things to leave town. That evening we attended the viewing of an amazing man. Saturday we attended Grandpa Herb's Funeral and told him good-bye. After the funeral we drove to Idaho for the burial. After everything we decided to spend the week in Idaho with our families. It was nice to be with family and get away from here. Overall its been a hard hard month at our home. Hopefully the holidays are going to be looking up!!! Here's hoping.

Last night our ward had our Halloween trunk or treat party. It was a lot of fun and the weather was ok. Our good friends the Prices rode with us. Julie and Layla were so cute in their costumes. We did hair and makeup before we went over. One of our friends dressed her little girl as a BYU cheerleader so we had to do pictures of her and Gabby together. Camryn is only 6 months old. She is adorable. Her big sister Reagan has her head popping up in the bottom of the picture. Lots of fun.

We got to have a few days break from school and everything so we decide to head up to the family cabin. My sister and her family were in Idaho for a few days so we got to see them while we were there. We took all the kids swimming in the morning before we headed to the cabin.

This is actually Gabby's 2nd day of school, but she wanted a pictures to send to Grandpa Craig of her in her tennis outfit.

Its official I get 4 hours a day to myself. Gabby and Garrett both go to school in the morning so I get from 8:30 - 12:30 everyday to myself. It has been a big change for me, but I am loving it. Garretts new teacher is Ms. Livoti. He is really excited to get to go to school all day and take a lunch. He got a new lunch box and backpack for the school year. Gabby's new teacher is Ms. Phair. Gabby was more excited about riding the bus than anything else. There are good things and bad things to having my kids in school. We played really hard this summer and we had a great time. I will miss the summer.

In August we headed to Idaho for a family reunion and a baby blessing. We tried to do family pictures with Collins family...it just doesn't happen. There are two many of us. Collin's sister Devrie offered to still do a few pictures of our family. I haven't had any pictures of me taken since I lost the majority of my weight. Thanks Devrie. I love them.

Day 3 Vegas: Valley of Fire

The Valley of Fire is located north of Las Vegas. We decided to head north on Memorial Day so that we could leave from the park and not have to drive as far later. We took a picnic and had a blast. The kids climbed everything that they could find.

Day 2 Vegas: Mermaids, MGM, M&M's

The next day we headed down to the Silverton Casino on the southside. It is attached to the Bass Pro Shop. Garrett really wanted this stuffed wolf but Bryn convinced him to just take a picture with it instead. (Thank you Brn...just what I need more stuffed animals)

The Silverton has an aquarium in the middle and every half hour they have mermaids who come out and so a little show and entertain the guests.

Day 1 Vegas Trip: Dinosaur Park

We made another trip to Vegas hoping to find some warm weather. It only lasted for about a day. So, while we had it we took the kids to the dinosaur water park. The kids had a blast!!!

Garrett had his kindergarten graduation last friday from Vineyard Elementary. Talk about a teary day for me. It gets a little harder to see how big he is getting every day. Mrs. Heaps was a great teacher and did her best to deal with Garrett and all his questions.

Grandpa Brutch, Grandma Teresa, and Keith were able to stop in and surprise Garrett for his graduation. It made his day. When we walked in and he saw them I couldn't believe how excited he got. What a great surprise.

This past week has been a blast. First, Collin and I purchased a new car. Collin bought me an 06 Nissan Pathfinder. I LOVE it!!! I am very spoiled. We did say good-bye to our blue maxima. It was having several problems and costing us way to much money. So, needless to say we bought a new car. YEAH!!!!

Next, we let Garrett skip school and go with us to the new flow-rider in town. I wasn't sure how he would like it, but the pictures speak for themselves. It's been a while since this smile has been seen, but what a great day. Collin is really sore and has the bruises to show for it. It was a great day.

Gabby Graduates from BYU Preschool

Today was such a fun, but a hard day at our house. Gabrielle finished her last day at BYU preschool. Mr. Brad was her teacher and we adore him. He was also Garrett's teacher the year before. The preschool experience has been amazing!!! Mr. Brad we will be forever grateful. Thanks for a great time.

Garrett had to have more dental work this morning, but he was a champ. They did all the work in the office and Dr. Howell was so impressed because Garrett didn't cry or move while they worked on him. Garrett made the "WIN IT" chart at the dental office. Because he was so brave I took him and bought him a special prize....his new remote control car.

We made sugar cookies last Saturday night and Gabby keeps begging to lick the beater. I finally gave in and this is what happens. Gabby is the messiest little girl. She can eat things and end up with them in the back of her hair. We love her.

Garrett White Belt Test - Board Breaking

This past weekend Garrett had his white belt ceremony and he got to break a board. "Totally Awesome!!!!!" as Gabby would say. Garrett did great and really had a great time. Grandpa Craig and Grandma Paula came down to cheer him on. Afterwards we went out for Mexican to Los Hermanos....delicious. We watched movies and had popcorn. Sunday morning mom and I made a big breakfast of waffles, eggs, sausage, orange juice, fresh strawberries, and Grandpa Bruces coconut syrup. It was so much fun to have my parents here. We also went to the Beane museum and the creamery for ice cream.

Princess Party - Gabby's 5th Part II

Today Gaby and I hosted a princess party for her 5th birthday. I was dressed up as the fairy godmother...(yes Bryn this is the dress from your wedding). We decorated cookies, and cupcakes; which I made myself. Then we painted our fingernails and put stickers to decorate them. We played pin the tail on the donkey for Garrett. We made sure and outfitted our princesses with jewelry: necklaces, rings, sticker earrings, bracelets. We had a lot of fun and made a big mess. Thanks to all the princesses for coming. And special thanks to the moms that stayed and helped.

Gabby's 5th Birthday Part I

So....I am going to leave the pictures to speak for themselves for the day. It was crazy from early this morning. We had a good time. My little girl is officially 5. Who would believe the years would fly by so quickly. Bring on the next 5 we are ready.

March Update

So...no pictures but we have been crazy busy. Garrett started karate. His school was doing a fundraiser and one of the dads owns his own karate studio. What a crazy amazing experience. Garrett LOVES it. I will post pictures.

The kids and I traveled to Oregon to play with Jenn and the kids for a few days. Technically the kids played and the moms cleaned. Jenn is expecting her 4th baby in May and needed an extra hand. We dejunked and cleaned the laundry/storage room, and then we went through all of her totes in the storage shed. I made her throw out clothes and part with baby things. It was very hard for her. We did get a lot done. I hope she survived having me there.

Are only hiccup was on the way home. The kids and I stayed in a hotel at the airport on Monday night. Our flight Tuesday was at 6:50 am so we stayed close. Tuesday morning came way to soon. I got up at 4 am and then got the kids up at 5am. We headed to the airport...got checked in and through security. By the time we hit the gate we found out that our flight had been cancelled and moved to 10:45....4 hour delay. Our plane had mechanical problems and they were flying in a new one. Oh how creative you can be when you are stuck in the airport for 5 hours with a 4 and 6 year old. It was worth it....because we were given travel vouchers. The kids and I some how got double vouchers. LOVE Southwest!!!!

We are finally home and trying to get back into routine. Trying to get ready to celebrate Gabby's birthday tomorrow. The big 5

Garrett's 6th Birthday

Garrett is officially 6. The time has flown by. This little man is the light of my life. Garrett is a in kindergarten and is excelling. For Garrett's birthday this year we headed to Idaho to spend the weekend with my family. Friday Collin and my dad took Garrett and my nephews skiing. That evening we celebrated Garretts birthday with a party. We had pizza for dinner and then opened presents. Garrett got spoiled as usual. The theme was focused on summer.....two swimming suits, things for the pool, a new baseball mitt, sand toys, money to buy a new fish, and of course clothes. When we were done with the party the boys and I played the Wii until around 12. Saturday morning the girls were all invited to attend a special Relief Society Meeting with Sister Julie Beck. My mom and her rs stake presidency invited Sister Beck and planned the entire event. It went from one stake and ended up at 25 stakes. What an incredible experience, but I will write more on that later. While we were at the conference all day Collin, my brother Patrick , and my two nephews: Chandler and Evan went skiing. Garrett, Gaby, and Elise stayed home with a babysitter. When we all finally made it home later that evening we made dinner and then headed bowling. Garrett wanted to be in charge of the camera that night. What a blast!!!!! My brothers are hilarious and decided to see who could bowl the worst game. Sunday morning we got to join Lerin and her family while they blessed their new little boy Hayden. Lerin's bishop was kind enough to let us move the blessing up so that we could all be there. What a fun, crazy, busy weekend.

New Nephew: Hayden Craig

On the 2nd of February my baby sister; Lerin finally gave birth to her first baby. Hayden Craig (after my dad) was born at 11:30pm. He weighed in at 7lbs 10 oz and was 22 1/2 inches long. Hayden had a long day getting here and put his mom through the ringer. On Thursday morning Gaby and I jumped in the car and drove to Idaho to surprise Lerin and help for a couple of days. I personally enjoyed trying to make him cry.

1. Hayden does not like to be cold.
2. He does not like to be naked.
3. He does not like to be rubbed with lotion.
4. He does not like his diaper changed....although he is very happy when it is done.

Gaby had a sleep over with Grandpa Craig and Grandma Paula while I stayed at the hospital with Lerin and Hayden. It is so fun to see this new stage to Lerin's life. Welcome to the world and the family little Hayden Craig we are all so happy you finally came. Prepare to be spoiled.

Garrett wants to move out

I have been waiting for the day when one of my kids would inform me that they were moving out. I did think it would take a little longer, but Garrett informed me this morning that he was moving out and moving in with our friends across the way. Gaby was sobbing: she had red cheeks, a runny nose, and streaks down her face. I pulled Garrett in my room and we began the discussion of why he was moving out. Garrett informed me that I was mean. I had made the mistake of asking my kids to pick up there things. Garrett had spread legos throughout the house and Gaby had spread her art supplies and papers. I wasn't sure how to answer this whether to be angry or inform him that he wasn't allowed. I took a different approach with him. I explained that he needed to think about a few things before he made his decision to move.

1: He would never see his grandparents again. No more Grandpa Craig, Grandma Paula, Grandpa Brutch, or Grandma Teresa. No more Grandpa Bruce and the trains.
2. No more cousins. No time with Chandler, Evan, Elise, Keegan, etc.
3. He would no longer have Jube as his horse.
4. No more time in Grandpa Craigs boat
5. No legos, clothes, bike
6. No more skiing
7. No playtime with Gaby. If he moved she would no longer be his sister.

There were several others, but I won't bore you with all of them. Garrett then went in his room and thought about what I had said. Garrett thought over everything for over a 1/2 hour. When he came in my room he explained that he had decided against moving. Gaby and I hugged him and told him how happy we were that he decided not to move. I then told him it was a good thing because who would protect me when Daddy wasn't here. I hope this doesn't happen again. I don't like it at all. I do love my love my little boy.

Skiing at Kelly Canyon

For New Years Eve this year we headed up to Idaho to spend a few days with my family. My parents had gone to Oregon to visit Jenn and her family for Christmas...so we needed our grandpa and grandma fix. We drove up on Thursday afternoon. That evening we hooked up my parents new Wii that the kids got them for Christmas. Garrett was in heaven playing in Mario. Friday morning we got up and started to get ready to go skiing. It was FREEZING in Idaho. Anyone who knows Gaby knows that she goes out for ten seconds and if frozen; this is due to the fact that there is no fat on her at all. So, we decided that just a half day of skiing would be best for her. We headed up to Kelly Canyon. Garrett and Gaby loved renting skis and telling everyone all about them. Garrett got to ski last year for the first time, but this was Gaby's first time. I personally would have rather put the kids in lessons but everyone was sure that we could teach them. Gaby and I got to work together. I HATE HATE HATE the rope tow. Hanging onto a steel rope and a five year old and controlling both sets of ski was a definant strain on my legs. Gaby did awesome. Gaby made it all day without falling....that is until Collin took her on one final run.

Garrett tore it up. He struggled on the bunny hill, but who doesn't. It's not steep enough to really get any speed and learn anything. So, Collin and I took Garrett up the ski lift. Garrett got on all by himself and didn't fall when he got off. He made it a little way and then Grandpa and Grandma came and joined us. Through all of this you need to know it was 5 degrees. Garrett was getting cold and frustrated. Needless to say my dad made Collin and I leave. Garrett made it down skiers lane with Grandpa and Grandma. We found Gaby hanging out in the lodge with a very pregnant Lerin. We decided Lerin needed to get out of the house and could come hang out at the ski hill with us. Lerin played out designanted camera person and lodge babysitter.

I loved skiing with my parents. Even thought it was freezing we had a blast and can't wait to go up again. While in Idaho I finally found my bindings for my new skis: skis that I have owned for 7 years and never skied on. Next time I am using my own equipment. Our family our now all skiiers!!!

Christmas Day

This is our very crazy Christmas morning. It was a blast. The kids went a little nuts. This was one of the first years that we stayed home and had our own Christmas. It was a challenge for me. I love the traditions of my family, and I do them with my kids I just enjoy being with my parents, siblings, grandparents, and the rest of the family.

Collin and I did enjoy ourselves. My Aunt Shauna made us breakfast casserole. Grandpa and Grandma Karlson came over and joined us for breakfast. I am sure they were very overwhelmed by the chaos of our home. After presents, breakfast, and more presents we started cleaning up. We had our first attempt at making prime rib...it was delicious. Our friends the Prices joined us for Christmas dinner. After dinner we talked and played cards until late. The kids made a big mess, but they had a blast doing it. What a great day. Merry Christmas!!!

Christmas Eve

Christmas is so much fun. For Christmas Eve this year we headed up to Uncle Terry's and Aunt Shauna's. We really just hung out. I helped Shauna finish up her kids pj's while Collin went with Terry to deliver dinner to a family in their ward. When the guys got back we had dinner. Shauna made pizza rolls....YUM!!! They were so good. The kids worked on decorating sugar cookies for Santa. The kids then opened their matching pjs.

After changing and a few pictures we had to head home. Collin and I had invited some friends over to help us create a runway for Santa. This is something that Collin, the kids, and I started last year in Idaho. I have to give full credit to Collin. When the snow we got melted off Collin drove to a snowbank and filled the truckbed and then moved it from the truck to the playground and laid it out. It took him 2 1/2 hours. What a great dad!! We set up bags with candles to outline the runway and then we put out our special reindeer food (oats, sugar, sprinkles). We also used carrots. After the candles were lit we came upstairs for hot chocolate and doughnuts!!

Christmas Card/Christmas Letter

Well, the end of the year has come. I felt like it wasn't terribly busy that is until the end of August came. I am also having issues getting my Christmas Cards out so here it is. My cousin Steph designed it for me. Thanks again Steph.

Gabrielle is a girly girly and a handful. Gaby had a hard time from January through April while Garrett finished school. Her days were filled with spending time with Mom. Gaby is a big shopper and loves shoes...she and Elise are definately related to one another. Later this summer Gaby received her acceptance to BYU Preschool and Mr. Brad's class; Mr. Brad was Garrett's teacher last year. Gaby was very excited and couldn't wait for school to start. Gaby is now loving school and doesn't like having a long Christmas break. I can't wait till she goes back to school. Gaby has been very helpful in being a nurse for Garrett. She also always wants to help me in the kitchen.

Garrett has finished preschool at BYU and started Kindergarten at Vineyard Elementary. Mrs. Heapes is an amazing teacher and Garrett adores her. Garrett is reading a lot lately, but I love it when he still wants me to read to him instead. Garrett is finishing The Lightning Thief....it only took him six months. This is on top of his other homework. He has his daddy's brains. Garrett is one of the favorites at the playground. He loves everyone and wants to play with anyone who comes down...including the dogs and parents. Garrett has gone through a lot this year, but he is a trooper. Garrett had to have dental surgery twice this year and then he just had is tonsils and adnoids removed. The tonsils were a big surprise, but after the surgery his Dr informed us that his adnoids were larger than his tonsils and filling his nasal cavity. I now understand why this child couldn't breath. I am love this kid. He is always telling us he loves us and gives tons of hugs.

I have no idea where to begin with Collin and his schooling. Collin finished his coursework in the Spring. He has also helped two different professors with research and the extra work has paid off. Dr. Stephenson published the paper that Collin helped do the research for. Collin has also participated at a conference at Snowbird that UofU put on. He then went on to attend the annual SFN conference in San Diego in November. Collin recently took his Orals and passed. He is now preparing the next paper for publication with Dr. Edwards; his mentor. Collin is also teaching at UVU as an adjunct faculty. He works so hard and runs like crazy to get everything done.

On to our family adventures this year. Our year was pretty quiet. We went to Las Vegas to visit the Smith family several times and had a blast with them in April, June, and again in November. We made a few trips to Idaho to see family. There was the Karlson family reunion at Cherry Hills. In August we celebrated a few big things. Over one weekend we had a bridal shower for Cortney; Pat's bride to be. Patrick took his endownments out. This was a big day for all of us. What an amazing experience to be with Patrick in the temple and to see all of my family there together. Mom had a big birthday as well. We played in the yard, and on the boat. Our family has such a fun time on the boat. Chandler, Evan, and Garrett spend a great deal of time out on the tube, but they all tried wake-boarding this year. Chan and Evan did awesome. Garrett is ready to start, but we never have a small enough board so his uncles ride with him. Elise and Gaby just go along for the ride. The girls did ride with me one time. In September we headed to Oregon for Labor Day to see Evan be baptized. The kids were amazing in the car. The week after we got home Nick and Kelsey welcomed their first baby Makoy. Three weeks after Oregon we headed to Boise to see Patrick and Cortney be married. Finally after three years of dating they figured it out. Halloween came and went. Garrett was Iron Man and Gaby was a Pink Barbie Cheerleader. THe first week of November we headed to Idaho for Makoy's blessing. The week before Thanksgiving we took our family on a trip to California. We have been preparing and saving for this trip for over a year. Collin had his conference in Cali so we joined him. We took the kids to the beach, Sea World, and Disneyland. What a blast!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat. Christmas has come quickly. We are excited for the year to end, but also for the year to come.

As far as me my life revolves around my family. I help in Garretts class a few times a month. I help with Gaby's class once a month. I try to keep stress away from Collin so that he can focus on his research.

I am grateful for my family and all that they do. I am grateful for my testimony and the blessings that it brings to my life. I am grateful for my Savior and the blessings that have come because of his sacrifice.

Annual Temple Square Trip

This past weekend has been fun. Lerin and Brian came down to visit and do some Christmasy things. On Friday we met them in Salt Lake and went to see the lights on Temple Square. We met at The Gateway and wandered for a while and then we made Lerin walk to Temple square and back. Poor Lerin....the poor little 8 month pregnant girl. Of course, Lerin and I stayed up late talking friday so Saturday started a little later. Saturday we did Christmas shopping. I am not a fan of shopping of Saturday's during the Christmas season. We ran a few errands and did get all of Lerin's shopping done. Yeah for her....I am not even close. We have had a good weekend. Now on to Garrett's surgery.

Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

This past weekend was our friends Annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. Collin gets a little excited about this and has been searching for a great sweater for a while. The result was the hat from his Aunt Ann to his Dad which he stole. Then the sweater is from the little girls section at DI. The result was truly hideous. We did have a blast. Baby Bella even made an appearance in her first ugly christmas sweater. Ellsworths you rock....we had a blast!!!

Disneyland

What an amazing experience. I have always loved Disneyland, but taking my kids there and seeing the looks on their faces was worth every penny we saved to go. Disneyland was decorated for Christmas which just made it that much more special. We were able to ride every ride. Gaby was about 1/2 inch to short to ride Indiana Jones, but it worked out. For anyone who told me we couldn't do Disneyland in a day....you were wrong. We rode every ride that we wanted to, and saw the characters that we wanted too. One of the best things was the kids did not complain one time....we dragged them all over Disneyland and Downtown Disney to the Lego store and no complaints. They were real troopers. I also have to say that waiting in line to meet the princesses was worth it as well. What amazing girls. They spend all day making little girls feel like they are their best friends. Gaby was in heaven. Ariel is Gaby's FAVORITE princess and she talked with Gaby for quite a while. Truly a memory that I can not forget or diminish in its importance. I am so grateful for Collin and all of his hardwork to provide for us to have these experiences. I am also thankful for two kids who made it so much fun to take them on this amazing adventure. Can't wait until the next time.

Sea World San Diego

On another day of our fun trip....we decided to go to Sea World. The kids were definately in awe of all the animals. We did attempt sitting in the splash zone. Gaby wasn't fond of getting splashed by the dolphins. One of our favorite animals was the beluga whales and their new baby.

Coronado Beach

Warm weather, the sand between our toes....yes we were hanging out on the beach in the middle of November. We finally took our kids to California. Collin was attending the SFN conference so we couldn't resist. We had fresh seafood the first night there and walked the San Diego Harbor with the kids. The next day Collin presented and then in the afternoon we headed out to Coronado to the beach. The kids had a blast. Gaby true to form stepped in the ocean and then sat shivering on the beach. The weather was warm at least for us. More to come.

Murder Mystery Dinner - Class of 85 Reunion

What a blast. Our friends the Fultons hosted a murder mystery dinner....theme: Class of '85 25 year reunion. Collin was the high school jock now turned high school coach married to the head cheerleader. I was the drama queen now turned Hollywood starlet....soap opera star winning my first emmy and now staring in an upcoming Disney film. The best part was that I was the Murder and I convinced everyone that it wasn't me. Not one person guessed that it was me. It was great to see everyone's interpretation of their characters and to really get into the story. SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!! Fultons you rock. Thanks for all the hard work Rachel. Let's do it again.

So, we are crazy, crazy Idahoans. While we were in Idaho for the 2nd reception we decided to go out on the boat one more time. The weather was beautiful, and warm. However, the water was freezing. Gaby put her feet in and wanted out immediately. Garrett on the other hand could't get enough. Garrett really wants to continue learning to wakeboard, but the boys didn't put the small board in for him....so Uncle Pat helped him out. It was awesome. Collin has been working hard this summer to get better and better. Mike and Pat are really patient and have been giving Collin hints on how to get better and how to excel at tricks. BYU Football

On the 9th of October Collins dad and his stepmom came down to go to a BYU football game with us. We had burgers at In-N-Out and then Collin gave them a tour of campus. The game was AWESOME!!!! You can't be in that stadium and not feel the energy. We had a great time. After the game we went to Tucano's.....we ate so much food. We had a really great time. Can't wait till next time.

Boise Wedding Trip

On September 24 my little brother Patrick got married. What an amazing day!!! Patrick and Cortney have been dating for 3 1/2 years. Being in the temple with them on this day was truly a blessing. The spirit was so strong. They worked so hard to get there. I know there aren't pictures of them....I left my camera in the car. I never do that. There will be pictures in a later post. The reception was a huge hit. Cortney decided we needed a bouncy house to entertain the nephews and nieces... little did she know that the adults would be drawn to it. We had a blast. So...to my little brother and my new sister-in-law CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We love you both and are excited for the years ahead and the late night laugh fests.

Remebrance of a True Lady -Grandma Colleen

Today was a good day and a hard day. This morning I woke about 4:30am to get ready to drive to Idaho for the day. Gaby got the honor of riding with me. On Saturday morning we got a phone call letting us know that our adopted Grandma Colleen had passed away. Colleen came into our lives about 12 years ago and has come to mean a great deal to me and my family, but mostly my dad. Today I left my house at 6 am to attend Grandma Colleens funeral in Idaho. I had been told by both of my parents that it wasn't necessary to make the trip, but how could I not...I loved Colleen. What an amazing woman. The service today was beautiful and full of stories of the happiness that Colleen spread all of her life from a young age until her last day.

One of the things I will never forget about Colleen was her porcelain doll collection. Colleen doesn't have any granddaughters to pass them onto. Each of my sisters and our daughters got to go and pick out one of the dolls that we would like to have. I never made it down to pick mine out, but I plan to go soon. Colleen loved her dolls so much that she had replicas of her three grandsons made. They are beautiful.

Here is to an amazing woman. She loved all and touch the hearts of any that entered her life. Happiness was always near when she was close by. I love you like a grandma...you will always remain in my heart. We will miss you dearly Grandma Colleen!

Newport Beach: Oregon Coast : Devils Punch Bowl

I know that there are tons of pictures, but we had a blast and I couldn't pick which ones to not put in. We still have more on my sister, and my brothers cameras. Just a quick run down of who was there: Patrick(brother), Cortney (Pat's fiance), Chandler, Evan, Elise, Jenn (Sister), Mom, Dad, Lerin (sister), Brian (brother-in-law), The Merrills. My kids had never been to the ocean before. It was awesome. Gaby swears she saw a dolphin....its probably a little to cold up there, but we won't tell her this time. Garrett ran straight in. He kept trying to get in deeper and deeper when we weren't looking, but the tide was coming in and the waves were getting pretty big. It was a lot of fun. I love the ocean.

Evans Baptism

Over labor day this year we headed to Oregon to see my nephew Evan be baptized. It was so much fun. If you truly know me you would know that I adore my nephews and nieces and that I would do anything for them. It meant so much that Evan would want us there to share in this day with him. We are so proud of him. Evan is one of the hardest workers that I know. He doesn't stop until everything is done. He is kind and loving. He can make Garrett laugh just by cracking a goofy smile. He is a great example to Garrett and Gaby and he is always trying to be loving to each of them. We had a blast in Oregon. We do want to go back and spend more time. Hopefully soon.

First Day of School

This is our little friend Alivia (I hope I spelled that correctly). Garrett and Alivia are in the same class and they ride the bus together. They all loved waiting for the bus to come on the first day.

Garretts first day of Kindergarten was last Wednesday. Garrett is attending Vineyard Elementary. His teacher is Mrs. Heapes. This year has been a change for the mom....Garrett gets to ride a bus. We only live two miles from the school, but he is insistent that he rides and doesn't need his mom to help. He is also not so sure about having mom help in the class room...I guess we will see how it goes. He is loving school and aced all of his placement testing. Today was the first day of preschool for Gaby. She looks so grown up. Gaby is attending BYU preschool just like her big brother did...she even ended up with the same teacher Mr. Brad. We are all really excited. Gaby said their first day was going over the rules on how to be good and singing silly songs. She loved it.

A Long Awaited Day

While in Idaho we had a special day that has been a long time coming...we went with my little brother Patrick to the temple to receive his endownment. What an incredible experience. My parents have six kids and we have all been to the temple now. All of us were together except for my older brother Adam. The feeling that was in the temple that day was something that is indescribable. I love my family so much and being with all of them in the temple was amazing. We are blessed to have all of our family close together. The list of attendees was: My dad, mom, Jennifer (sister), Michael (brother), Brian (brother-in-law), Lerin (sister), Grandpa Bruce, Grandma Luana, Aunt Shauna, Rebecca, Aunt Coleen, Uncle R. Kay, Collin, and I. When we finished Patricks fiance Cortney met us outside. We are so excited for their upcoming wedding...24th of September. I am so grateful for the blessings of the temple and that my parents raised us to strive for the blessings gained there.

Summer 2010 & Update

This summer has taken me by surprise and I have been insanely busy. We have had family reunions and tons of stuff. At annual Karlson Reunion Garrett again won the 1st Place in the kids division, and 2nd in the overall. He raced Grandpa's Gold Nugget car. We golfed, swam, went to the zoo, laughed, over ate, hit the Ogden rodeo, and just had a blast. We have made more trips to Idaho then we ever want to, but we go where our family needs us to be. We have spent a lot of time at the pool this summer and of course the playground. The kids always keep me on my toes.

In the next couple of weeks we have the Merrill Reunion; which unfortunately we won't be able to attend. The weekend after that we are headed to Idaho for a busy, but a couple of huge moments for our family. We are going to the Playmill to see Beauty and The Beast. We are having a bridal shower for our soon to be sister-in-law Cortney. Patrick is taking out his endownments. This is HUGE!!!! We have prayed, and fasted for this time to come when Patrick could get to the temple. This will be the first time all of our family are in the temple and don't have anyone to sit with the kids outside. We are also celebrating one of my mom's special birthday's. We have three birthdays on the same day my Grandpa Bruce, my Mom, and Collin's Dad. It makes for a crazy time. When we get back from Idaho we will be preparing for school.

Garrett will be starting kindergarten at Lakeview Elementary on the 1st of Sept. This is getting a little harder every year. I adore Garrett and I am jealous of his teacher getting some of his time and attention. Garrett is brilliant and is going to blow there socks off.

Gabrielle was finally accepted to BYU Preschool. She is going to be in Mr. Brad's class. Mr. Brad was Garrett's teacher last year. We are excited to be back in with Mr. Brad; he is an amazing teacher. Gaby is very excited to start preschool and is already practicing writing her name. Mind you her name is usually Princess Gabrielle or Gabrielle Mermaid. She is so creative and she loves everyone. What a doll.

Collin is starting his 3rd year of his PhD Program. This are always crazy with his schedule, but he always makes time for us. Collin is truly brilliant and I am astounded by the things he tries to share with me....I don't understand even a tenth of it. He tries to explain the best he can. He is loving his work and even when frustrated he would rather be in the lab figuring out the problem.

Life is crazy, but its not an adventure unless it is. I will post pictures of the upcoming events.

The Father's Day Shootout

This past week has been nice. On Thursday night I met my parents in SLC to drop off the kids. Garrett and Gaby headed to Idaho for five days. Collin and I have been enjoying the quiet. On Saturday I discovered a new Addiction. We were invited to a shootout with our friends from Vegas and some of their family and other friends. It was a blast. I have never shot a gun before....what a rush. I was the only girl that went and Joel insisted that I shoot at least once. We had a great time.

The kids have been in Idaho for a several days. When I have talked to them they were having tons of fun. Grandma Paula even let them go to the park and get all muddy. Garrett was suppose to go alone, but he informed me that he couldn't go without his best friend. He kept telling me that he needed to have Gaby with him to have someone to play with . They have never been apart! Spoiled little things. I love that they adore each other so much.

The Month of May

May has been a fun month. On the 2nd Collin and I celebrated our 7th anniversary. This is suppose to be the aluminum anniversary. What do you buy for that...well I improvised and bought him a metal colored shirt and shorts. On the 6th we kind of celebrated my dad's birthday, but not living in Idaho all he got was some fun phone calls from the kids and I. We all chipped in and bought my dad exercise stuff....not sure he wanted it but we had fun buying it for him. On the 9th was Collins 29th birthday. Well, since the 9th was Mothers Day I try to make a bigger deal about his birthday. So, friday morning we decided to head to Idaho completely last minute. As soon as Collin left for school I called his dad and attempted to set up a surprise dinner with Collin's family. This is not easy when you are driving in a car with someone for four hours and not letting on to what is happening. However, I was successful....YEAH!!! Russ, Devrie, Cooper, Keegan, Brody, Kelsey, Kent, Keith, Teresa, Brutch, Lerin, and Brian all showed up at the HARD HAT Steakhouse in Idaho Falls. Collin was so surprised he had no idea. We had a blast. After dinner we went to see Iron Man 2. We have made our usual trip to the aquarium to see the new penguin display. The kids loved it. Not bad for half the month. I have also been making some new watches and Collin has been helping me with giving me some challenges to attempt. On to the rest of the month.

Part of the weekend we decided to run out to Hoover Dam. Joel, Bryn and their family had never been out there and stopped. So, we decided to go out and check it out. We had a blast. I am not a fan of heights so needless to say I was not very fond of standing close to the edge. The kids loved it though.

Vegas Trip: Childrens Museum Day 1

This past weekend Collin, the kids, and I decided it was time to get away and see our friends from Vegas. Joel, Bryn and their family were very willing to let us stay with them and entertain us for the whole weekend. It was a BLAST!!!! The weather was perfect..not to hot not to cold. I will be posting more pictures because I took so many. This was our first day and we took the kids to the Childrens Museum where they got to play with tons of different things from bubbles, construction toys, and musical instruments. The kids had so much fun. I just enjoyed being with Bryn and getting to catch up. More to come.

Garretts Last Day of School @ BYU

Our weekend was busy but it led easily into the next week. Garrett had his last two days of Preschool at BYU. I was more sad and upset than Garrett was. Monday Gaby and I got to go and attend school with Garrett to see what he had been doing. We learned about yeast, ground whole wheat, tasted bread, and made pizza. It was a lot of fun. Garrett wanted pictures with everyone, but obviously that wasn't going to happen with all of his friends parents there too. The last day was business as usual. Garrett went and spent the day having a blast. When we picked him up the teachers had completed 4 portfolios of the work they have done over the year. They are amazing.

I am excited that we were able to give Garrett this opportunity to attend BYU. I know that he was able to accomplish a great deal there. We did find out that Garrett has been reading since the first day of school. He won't at home, but we have decided that is because I make such funny voices as I read. He has gained a great deal of knowledge and expanded what he did have. Mr. Brad was truly amazing and knew just how to help Garrett with everything. We will forever remember him.

Dodge National Rodeo Pocatello, Id

This past weekend found us in Idaho once again. We headed up for two weddings, my cousin Alex's graduation from BYU-Idaho, the Dodge National Rodeo, and Renn's 40th Birthday. I think I got everything. My dad loaded us all up Friday night and we headed down to Pocatello for the rodeo. It was a blast. My neice Elise is a doll in her wranglers, and little red shirt. The grandkids all wore their boots that grandpa got them for Christmas. I forgot to get a picture of them. We had a good time. You can tell from Mike's picture he had so much fun. The close ups are from Gaby using my camera yet again.

Gaby bowled a 103 on her first time Garrett scored a 97. Garrett enjoyed telling everyone what to do and how to get strikes.

Over Valentines Day we headed up to Idaho to check on family. We visited with Grandpa & Grandma Merrill for a little bit. Then we went into Brutch & Teresas for dinner with the family. It was great to hang out with everyone. We haven't seen anyone since Christmas. The next day Devrie and her kids, and Brutch, Teresa, and Keith came over to our hotel and we all went swimming together. We had a blast. It is always fun to be with family.

Our ward is really small at least the Primary is...so Garrett or Gabrielle usually have something to do every week. This week I decided Garrett needed to memorize his scripture before church. I was worried that he would get up there and freeze, but the Primary President; Shara called and said he did a great job. We are so proud of him. What an amazing kid he memorized the First Article of Faith in about 5 minutes he must have his daddy's brain.

Christmas was a blast this year. However, there are so many pictures I couldn't pick which to post....so I just posted the ones from our snowmobile trip. We started our trip the Saturday before Christmas by heading to Idaho for the Merrill Christmas at Grandpa Parry and Grandma Sonia's house. We had a blast with all the extended Merrill family. We headed to Rigby to my parents house that night and stayed there for the following two weeks. On Christmas Eve we went to Grandpa Bruce and Grandma Luanas house for dinner, program, the New White Elephant Game, and Santa with new matching pjs. It was hilarious. After the party we went back to my parents to set up a landing strip in the back yard for Santa. We smoothed out the snow and set up luminaries so Santa would know where to land. We even set out carrots out for the reindeer. Christmas morning came early and the kids headed straight outside to see if Santa had made it. The rest of the morning was a blur while the kids were spoiled rotten. That afternoon we headed to Blackfoot to be with Collins family where we were all spoiled. What a great Christmas. The pictures are from the day that Brutch and Teresa took us up to the cabin to ride snow machines. Danny, MeChel, and Bridger were up there and went for a ride with us. It was a great day. We were all sore after the bumpy ride. What a great Christmas and New Years. I will post more pics I just have to decide which.

Ugly Christmas Sweater

Our friends Greg and Ali hold an annual "UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER" party...we were lucky enough to get an invite. We started our hunt with family members who might have a sweater we could borrow with no success. The DI called our name and Savers, but still to nothing worthy. Finally, Collin gave in and bought a musical Santa and we taped it to his shirt. The party was a blast with fun games and a sweater contest. Collin didn't win, but we had fun. Projects for Christmas

So, anyone who knows me knows that I am not crafty in any way shape or form. For Christmas this year I have decided to try to become crafty and I do mean try. This is the first time I have ever tried to make pies...and the ones shown are my first tries. The apple pie is made from apples that I have in my food storage, the pumpkin are just what they are. My next project was to make bow holders...I think they turned out really cute.

The other picture is of my mother-in-law Teresa. Brutch and Teresa came down to visit for a couple of days. It was a crazy two days. I went with my friend Ali and her cousin Kristen to see New Moon Friday morning....LOVED IT!!!! Then when we got back Collin told me that we were going to dinner with his family. We had a great time at Chilis with Bruth, Teresa, Grandpa Herb, and Grandma Jane. After dinner we took the kids to the hotel and went swimming. Garrett and Gaby love to swim they are little fish when there is water around. On Saturday we took the in-laws to J Dawgs to get a hot dog and to have a tour of Collins lab that he works in. They did their best to understand what he is doing. We eventually left the guys. Collin took his dad to the BYU vs Air Force game. BYU won!!! They froze. Teresa and I went shopping for a little bit and then we came back to the apartment and worked on pies. Teresa got to play dolls, trains, and I think bakugan. Not quite sure. We had a great time. I am so glad they came to play with us.

Halloween Ward Party

Tonight, we had our ward party for Halloween. Gaby was Cinderella....at least we think. She changed which princess she wanted to be every time we talked to her. Garrett was Optimus Prime...no surprise. Collin was our resident MAD scientist!! We had a lot of fun. They have a chili/chocolate cookoff. One member won the best chili and chocolate treat.

These are a few more pictures from our Chicago trip. Collin was attending the neuroscience conference and I got to go with him. This is the famous bean...at least that is what everyone kept telling us. We had a great trip and enjoyed the time alone away from the kids. Thanks mom and Lerin for helping us out with the kids.

One afternoon Garrett was playing in his room after preschool. One minute I heard car noises and then the next minute there were no more noises. The pictures are what I found in the room. Garrett plays really hard at preschool as you can tell.

1st Day at BYU

Well, it has been a very exciting day!! Garrett got to start his first day at BYU Preschool. His teacher is Mr. Brad. We will get pictures later of the teacher. Garrett got to pick out his own outfit and then go and find a backpack. The backpack wasn't necessary, but he thinks he needs it and we got it on clearance at Target. Gabrielle had a really hard time separating from her brother. Gaby got a new outfit too...she wanted to show it off. If you can't tell it took everything out of Gaby today, by the fact that she is asleep at the dining room table. Collin couldn't stop laughing at her. We are so excited for Garrett. All Garrett could talk about is the trikes at the play ground and the house in the room. It was so funny. If any one has any ideas to help Gaby and I with our private girl time we need ideas. We can only paint our toenails and fingernails so many times.

Lerins Wedding

So, if you can't tell my baby sister got married this last friday. We are so excited for Lerin and Brian. One of the cool things that Lerin wanted to do was to display the wedding dresses of my mom, sister and myself. It was a really neat idea. Or at least I thought so. The kids were really good and looked so good in their wedding clothes.
