This weekend has been a lot of fun. On Wednesday Collins' cousin Carter got home from his mission in Zimbabwe. On Friday we went and finished all of our Christmas shopping. We did attempt to drive up to Park city... that was ridiculous. There was a terrible snow storm and we ended up turning around and going to Southtown to shop. When we finally made it home and got the kids to bed Collin and I spent the rest of the evening wrapping all of our presents.
Saturday we headed up to Ogden. Aunt MeChel's family borrowed a friends home at Wolf Mountain for us to stay at and have our annual Christmas party. While driving up the canyon the snow started again. Lucky for us Collin is a great driver and our car did amazing driving up the hill. The cabin was amazing it was a million dollar home with all the amenities. We finally got to see Carter and all the family. It was great. We had a fun party and ate lots of food.
Today we drove back to Ogden for Carters report on his mission and more time with family. Carters report was amazing he talked about standing as a witness even in fear. After the report we went over to MeChels for food. There were so many people. We had a great time. It was fun to get to see all of Collin's family.
Big news for Collin's family his little sister Shalay and her husband announced that they are expecting a baby in July. That makes four babies for next year. Devrie in April, Krishel in May, Lindsie in June, and Shalay in July. So far they are all having boys. We are very excited for them.
We are headed to Idaho this week for Christmas and the holidays. We are excited to get to spend more time with family and friends. Collin is also in need of a break and then he can hit the books or rather the labs.

Taping Gaby's Mouth
Okay, so anyone who knows our dear sweet Gaby also knows the volume and highness of her voice. Today has been no different....except that about 6:30 her dad lost his patience with the screaming. Collin taped Gaby's mouth shut with packing tape. She came running into the room sobbing with her mouth still taped shut. It was terrible, but all I could do was laugh at her. We are trying to see if this method will stop the screaming. It still makes me laugh even when I am writing about it. Grandparents are not allowed to be upset with us....we didn't leave the tape on very long....matter of seconds.
This week was busy with Collin finishing projects and preparing for finals. We will see how the week to comes finds us. I actually got to get out of the house for a day. On friday I got to go up to Ogden to Aunt MeChels and help her clean her house before her missionary comes home. It was fun. Anyone who knows me knows that I enjoy cleaning and helping out. MeChel and I got to gab a little but still got a lot done. Other than that it has been a quiet week with the Merrills.

Collin's Crazy Exciting Week!
Annie and I have decided to alternate weeks for writing our blog--obviously it's my week. Unfortunately for the rest of you, I'm going to talk about the research I'm working on. (I'm laughing evilly on the inside!) I finally learned the protocol for the RT/PCR reaction, so I can finally get some research done. I'm testing RNA primers for a CCK receptor so that we can do some in situ hybridization (I think). I'm not really sure what the goal of the research is, so I need to talk to my mentor about it. Oh, by the way, I'm working with Dr. Jeff Edwards, studying mechanisms of memory in the hippocampus. I know that most of you who will read this have absolutely no idea what all that gobble-de-gook means and will find it really boring, but I love it. Hey, and look at it this way. Annie gets this all the time--you just get it every other week. Imagine how she feels when I get home from the lab. She probably would rather go to the dentist or something equally unpleasant. She's actually pretty good about it. She just nods and says "Good job, Sweetie," and keeps cleaning up after the kids.
We started our Christmas shopping yesterday. Let me tell you, what a joy...There were so many people out and about that we could barely get around Orem at all. Annie refuses to do it alone, so I have to endure the crowds, the screaming children, the mall. Also, we still haven't found any babysitters, so we have to try and keep our kids from running amok as well. I love the holidays.
Anyway, I get about as much time in the lab as I want, which is really nice. Dr. Edwards said he wants to make me the lead researcher on the project, which means that when it's all done, I'll get to be on the author's list on the paper. I may even be the lead author. That would be awesome, especially since that's one of the major goals for my program. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. All right, I'm done now. Next time you'll get Annie's blog, not the condensed scientific paper you just read. Like I said, that's what I've been up to this week, and I love it.
